Health and safety signage is in place in preparation for the opening of a new Morrisons store in South Tyneside.

The shop, which is on the site of an old Asda building on Ocean Road, will open on Monday 22nd November, the Shields Gazette reports.

Some 250 jobs will be created by the development.

The supermarket will have Morrisons' flagship Market Street concept, featuring a butcher, baker and fishmonger.

Manager Gary Tiffany told the newspaper: "I am absolutely thrilled to be taking up this position, and offering shoppers an excellent supermarket and superb product range, in a great location."

Councillor Michael Clare, lead member for jobs, enterprise and regeneration at South Tyneside Council, said the authority welcomed Morrisons' investment.

"It is a high-profile, successful, big-brand business, and we look forward to it opening," he told the newspaper.

Morrisons' is the fourth largest food retailer in the UK, with 403 stores.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800224379-ADNFCR
