A new scheme that aims to underline the dangers that young people may face on work experience finished in second place in the Public Achievement category at the annual Municipal Journal Awards in London.

This achievement may cause businesses to place more emphasis on developing effective safety signage.

More than 2,500 Stockport students have joined the initiative, which is backed by local businesses such as Browns Construction Group, Supply Hire UK, Parfetts, Fowler Welch, Sale Sharks and the Co-operative Group.

Councillor Chris Gordon, chair of the licensing, environment and safety committee, said: "I commend the team on their fantastic achievement, finishing runners-up for a top national award.

"The awards highlight good practice and showcase the very best work being carried out by local councils throughout the country."

Earlier this week, the Liverpool Daily Post reported that Redrow Homes has collected a safety gold award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents for its efforts towards maintaining strong health and safety measures.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800604540-ADNFCR
