Loading specialist Thorworld has announced a new safety initiative that may prompt other firms to explore their use of safety signage.

The company has advocated the many benefits of implementing stringent health and safety measures by saying that employers have a duty to care for their personnel, while strong economic reasons are also behind its choice.

Thorworld managing director John Meale said: "With a little common sense, backed by expert guidance and smart investment in equipment and training, loading and unloading area safety can be improved to the point where accidents will be waiting a long time before they happen."

The company has also recommended that health and safety audits should be conducted prior to any potential investment in the field.

Last month, parcel delivery company Yodel collected a gold achievement award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

The firm's health and safety measures have seen its three-day injuries fall by over 41 per cent in a year.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800684423-ADNFCR
