A number of car drivers and motorbike riders have been awarded at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents' (RoSPA) Advanced Drivers and Riders (RoADAR).

More than 10,000 volunteers were represented at the event, which took place at Birmingham's National Motorcycle Museum on November 24th.

Russel Widlake of South West Wales RoADAR collected the member of the year trophy, while the Cornwall Advanced Motorists' group picked up the best new group gong.

Other victors included the East Midlands Advanced Drivers Association, which was awarded with the best car group.

Bob Smalley, RoSPA’s chief driving examiner, said: "The whole point of RoADAR is to help cut road accidents by improving driving standards. We have scores of local groups all willing to provide free training to members of the public with this aim in mind."

The organisation recently launched the Child on the Drive! scheme which aims to raise awareness of the dangers that children face on driveways.

It is funded by donations, with free posters and leaflets being used to increase awareness of the dangers children face near vehicles.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801497290-ADNFCR
