UK residents warned of weekend freeze

As the expected cold snap approaches areas of the UK, people should be especially wary of the dangers associated with freezing conditions, while businesses should look to implement caution ice signs where they are necessary.

Once ice covers roads, drivers are particularly vulnerable to accidents, so it is advisable for motorists to travel at slow speeds on the slippery surfaces, while avoiding any rural roads that many not have been gritted.

Staffordshire County Council is one authority that has already taken action to combat the predicted weather, deploying gritting teams across its highways.

Mike Maryon advised drivers: "As the weather takes a turn for the worst, I would urge motorists to avoid driving if at all possible and to only make trips that are absolutely essential."

However, it is not only drivers that are at risk of ice, as pedestrians should also be cautious when stepping outside in extremely cold conditions.

Avoiding sloping surfaces in icy conditions and wearing footwear that has sufficient grip could help to ensure the safety of those who do need to leave their home.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801281409-ADNFCR
