Faisal Rana from the Leeds company United Petroleum has captured the inaugural Xmo Strata safety award, illustrating the awards that can be given to companies that adopt measures such as effective safety signage.

Mr Rana collected the award after providing a constant improvement in health and safety on forecourts, with judges praising the wide range of ideas that went into his Goal Zero Initiative.

Xmo Strata managing director Steve Martin said;" Firms that claim to have no health and safety incidents have poor reporting or are lying -- and customers nowadays are savvy enough to know that."

Runners-up in the awards scheme included Paul Picano of Gilbarco Veeder-Root and Xmo Strata's signage fitter Ady Whitehill.

Last month, the college Ystrad Mynach was presented with the Welsh assembly government's Corporate Health Standard scheme, obtaining a bronze award in the programme.

The award recognises the college's commitment to ensure that its staff are working in healthy environments.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801259770-ADNFCR
