UPM Tilhill has been given a top honour at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents' (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards.

It rose above competitors throughout Britain to collect the 2011 Forestry Sector accolade for exemplary health and safety practices, which demonstrates how the efficient use of measures such as safety signs can lead to rewards.

UPM Tilhill's head of safety Chris Pike said: "We are absolutely delighted to win another award in a new category. Health and safety is the cornerstone of everything we do and this award recognises the very high standards UPM Tilhill achieves."

The company is continuing to meet exceptionally high levels of health and safety management, Mr Pike emphasised.

RoSPA also recognised Balfour Beatty Construction and Southern Limited in its award ceremony. The Edinburgh construction firm picked up the Sir George Earle trophy.

The business was also commended for its creative approach to health and safety.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800566634-ADNFCR
