Warning sign is snow joke for Marlow residents

Warning signs put up in a Marlow car park have angered members of a local charity – because it warns motorists about the "possibility" of ice.

The Marlow Society, which works for the preservation of the Buckinghamshire town, has slammed the signage as a waste of taxpayers' money, the Bucks Free Press reports.

"If there had been a competition to find the most stupid sign this would win," charity member Martin Bucknell said of the sign, which has been installed in a car park in the town's Dean Street.

Mr Bucknell drew attention to the disparity between current public sector cuts and the wantonness of Wycombe District Council.

"Why is local authority money being spent in this way when there is no funding for youth clubs, pedestrian crossings and a whole range of social activities?" he told the newspaper.

Fellow member George Lawrence said the only danger is from people walking in the dark and banging their head on the sign.

However, the council defended it, saying it cost a little over £20 and was useful as a way to alert people to potential hazards.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800401998-ADNFCR
