'Warning signs needed' for holiday blowhole

A holidaymaker has expressed her outrage at the lack of safety signs around a geological blowhole on the island of Maui.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Tika Hick said that her fiance was sucked to his death after visiting the rare geyser-like feature, which blows water out of the ocean through crevasses in the earth's surface due to pressure differences.

The tragic incident occurred when the man slipped as he was enjoying the spectacular display, getting caught in the vacuum created when the water is sucked back in.

Ms Hick said that the only signage was situated a quarter of a mile away from the blowholes.

"He slipped because it was slippery," she added.

Chartered health and safety expert Garry Saunders, speaking to the Hackney Citizen, recently warned that there are potential electrical dangers at the London Fields Lido pool, which may lead other pool operators to evaluate their safety signage.
