Warrington South MP David Mowat has lauded the government's decision to launch two health and safety panels.
Mr Mowat told the Warrington Guardian that the decision was a "victory for common sense", with the move enabling members of the public to contest health and safety advice that they perceive to be needless.
"We all have our own stories about busybodies using 'elf n safety' as an excuse for blocking perfectly legitimate activities, whether it’s hanging baskets, Christmas lights or bunting," he explained.
Mr Mowat added that the two panels mean that ordinary people now have the opportunity to expose such rules in a "quick, cheap and efficient" method.
One of these is entitled the Myth Busters Challenge Panel and is chaired by Judith Hackitt from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
HSE board member Robin Dahlberg has been appointed as vice-chair, while both of them are backed by a selection of independent members.
