Weightlifter helps spread safety awareness

2nd December 2013 | Health and Safety Signs

A former professional weightlifter and Olympic coach was part of a health and safety event on November 29th, as he talked to businesses about protecting their employees.

Davy Snowdon was a weightlifter who was selected as the strength, conditioning and power coach for all 32 of the UK’s weightlifting teams at the Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996.

The former world record-breaking weightlifter talked to local business representatives at the event, held in Weston-super-Mare.

Mr Snowdon said: “Employers can ensure their employees are on top form in the same way an Olympic coach would look after a weight lifter.

“First and foremost you would ensure they are provided with the correct tools or techniques, then coach, encourage and correct where necessary.”

These correct tools and techniques include appropriate warning signs, and devising safe working practices for anything that could be hazardous.

Other speakers at the event included Professor David Walters, director of the Cardiff Work Environment Research Centre.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801667564-ADNFCR
