Workplace deaths fall across the board

30th December 2013 | Health and Safety Signs

New statistics released by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) show that the number of deaths in UK workplaces fell this year, often by large amounts.

In the north-west of England, for example, 15 workers were unfortunately killed this year due to workplace accidents. However, 25 died the year before, so the fact that workplace deaths are falling is positive news.

In Wales, only eight people lost their lives due to workplace accidents, down from 19 the previous year.

The increased awareness of safe working practice, combined with good use of training and safety signage, has contributed to the drop in fatalities.

A spokesperson for the HSE said: “It’s important to remember that while we still have one of the lowest rates of workplace deaths in Europe, one death is still one too many.”

Businesses are being encouraged to help reduce the number of fatalities once again for 2014.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801676838-ADNFCR
