Broomfield Hospital to install new signs for renamed wards

8th July 2011 | Door Signs

Posted by Jason Nicholls

Door and office signs across Broomfield Hospital in Essex will need to be changed, after locals helped to choose new names for all of its wards.

Eight wards which are currently known by number are set to be renamed after mid- Essex villages, chosen through a vote by local residents.

New ward names and numbers will not be introduced until late July, when new office door signs and other wayfinding equipment is expected to have been delivered.

Mid Essex Hospitals chief executive Malcolm Stamp explained: "We know that there have been some issues with the way finding at Broomfield Hospital since we opened the new wing in November 2010, so we have been working hard to make some improvements and naming the wards is part of this process."

Other hospitals around the UK have made attempts to improve wayfinding, in a bid to help patients and other users find their way around more easily.

Glan Clwyd Hospital near Rhyl, North Wales, installed new wall maps to improve wayfinding around the 700-bed site.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800615650-ADNFCR
