Councillors to decide on Blackpool no smoking signs

Plans to introduce no smoking signs at parks around Blackpool underwent more public consultation at the end of last week.

The Blackpool Gazette reported that opposition leader councillor Tony Williams had urged members of the public to attend the meeting, after a vote was held to go-ahead with the signage.

"We all know it is a good health message, but this is something which will affect every single resident in Blackpool and I believe the public should be able to have their say. So I am asking the council to defer the decision and go out to public consultation," he told the paper.

Chairman of the Friends of Highfield Road Park in South Shore Gary Pennington added that the size of the signs "are not commensurate with the park".

He went on to say that the warnings are being imposed on the public without any consultation.

Early plans for the signs revealed that they will carry the following message: "Altogether Now. To protect children, this is a designated smokefree site."ADNFCR-2754-ID-801481847-ADNFCR
