Highbridge's Apex Park to have no smoking signs

8th November 2012 | No Smoking Signs

The Apex Park in Highbridge will be given the no smoking signage treatment as it becomes one of the first play areas in the south west region to be made cigarette-free.

Burnham-on-Sea.com reported that thousands of pounds worth of NHS funding will be provided to get the scheme off the ground, with Smoke Free South West wanting to introduce "voluntary smoking bans in parks" around the district.

"Children are influenced by what they see around them and they can be harmed by cigarette smoke. A ban would promote well-being, decrease litter from discarded butts and support Apex's Green Flag award scheme," Laura Rideout from the Smoke Free South West said.

Speaking at a meeting with councillors earlier this week, Stuart Brock from NHS Somerset added that the budget is available for Highbridge and he would love it to be the first pilot project.

Parks across Blackpool could also be sporting no-smoking signage after a number of meetings between councillors to improve the health of the town.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801484827-ADNFCR
