Hospital visitors continue smoking despite warning signs

2nd August 2011 | No Smoking Signs

No smoking signs at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield are being ignored by visitors, who continue to smoke despite the warnings.

Officials at the hospital have voiced their frustration over the matter, and have even been subjected to abuse after asking individuals to put a stop to their smoking, according to the Wakefield Express.

Julia Squire, chief executive of Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust, said: "There has been a spate of complaints about smoking. Patients and staff are having to walk past people smoking right outside the building."

The smoking gives out the wrong impression and does not allow the hospital to meet its responsibilities for health and well-being, Ms Squire also noted.

Last month, the London Evening Standard reported that smoking has been banned in Clissold Park within the Borough of Hackney.

The decision was made amid worries over the health of children using the facility.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800673627-ADNFCR
