No smoking signs help Pendle play areas go smoke-free

No smoking signs have been installed at a play area in Pendle – making it the first in the area to go smoke-free.
Sough Park play area, in Earby, is the first beneficiary of no smoking signs, inaugurating the scheme that will see the remaining 56 sites receive signage as part of a council project to eradicate smoking from the areas, the Craven Herald & Pioneer reports.
The play area was officially opened by Pendle's mayor, councillor Anthony Beckett, who was joined by pupils from Kelbrook Primary School.
"Second-hand smoke is toxic and children in particular are vulnerable to its effects. Through our partnership work with NHS East Lancashire, we encourage parents and carers who smoke to make their homes smoke free," councillor Naeem Ashraf, member for parks and leisure, told the newspaper.
To underscore the new smoke-free status of the play area, a person dressed as a cigarette was duly 'stubbed out' by the mayor.
