No smoking signs to deter smokers from discarding cigarette ends?

No smoking signs could prevent smokers from putting their cigarette ends in unwanted places.

Recently, the Matlock Mercury printed a letter from a local resident complaining about smokers disposing of their cigarette butts in flower beds.

Dorothy Corker wrote to the news provider to express her distaste about planters being used as ashtrays "by these who obviously couldn’t care a monkey's".

"It is such a shame, there is no need for it, many of us are putting our efforts into making sure that Matlock remains clean and tidy, and a desirable place to live, while they are polluting and abusing that which is meant to be a pleasure to us all," Ms Corker wrote.

"I ask them to please show a little friendliness towards the environment because our pretty little flowers don’t like it, and neither do I," she added.

According to Patient.co.uk, around 100,000 people in the UK die each year due to smoking.

The most common smoking related deaths are caused by cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart disease.ADNFCR-2754-ID-800511737-ADNFCR
