Employees can play an important part of improving a business' carbon footprint, according to an expert.

Kim Bryan, spokeswoman for the Centre for Alternative Technology, said that organisations need to have a look at where energy is being lost.

She added that lots of energy escapes through the roof, the wall and as a result of poor draft proofing and insulation.

Office signs can be used to encourage staff to think about how they get to work and to get them to turn their computers off every evening.

Lights and heating should also be looked at as areas where energy usage can be reduced.

"So there are lots of things we can do in addition to insulation and draft proofing. Also things like boilers, and water heaters [is an area] which people can reduce the use of the energy that you need to put in to heat water for example," she stated.ADNFCR-2754-ID-801398181-ADNFCR
